Blockchain technology has gained considerable attention from researchers and practitioners in education. This is mainly due to its unique features including decentralization, security, reliability, and data integrity.
As a Collaborative Group of Blockchain, our mission is to focus on systematic review of research investigating blockchain-based educational applications in teaching and learning environments. Several goals have been identified such as exploring, seeking and identifying the educational applications that have been developed with blockchain technology, benefits that blockchain technology could bring to education and challenges of adopting blockchain technology in education. Hence, we hoped that it would bring ideas for Blockchain technology to become a sustainable adoption of creative and innovative technologies in delivery and learning at UiTM.
Blockchain technology is most simply defined as a decentralized, distributed ledger that records the provenance (ownership/origin) of a digital asset (documents, cert, portfolio, assessment etc). In the simplest terms, Blockchain can be described as a data structure that holds transactional records and while ensuring security, transparency, and decentralization, therefore it can be duplicate but not fake. Likewise, Blockchain is a shared, immutable ledger that facilitates the process of recording transactions and tracking assets in a business network. An asset can be tangible (a house, car, cash, land) or intangible (intellectual property, patents, copyrights, branding). Virtually anything of value can be tracked and traded on a blockchain network, reducing risk and cutting costs for all involved.
Blockchain is more than technology. It’s a movement that's redefining our most important business relationships through trust, transparency and newfound collaboration. It’s the work of visionaries — people who see the world differently and are compelled to help the rest of us believe in the art of the possible.
